What would an animal sanctuary be without cats?
These headstrong, lovable, graceful creatures… they have always been here at the Hun’nenhoff, even before the farm got its name. Today, 10 cats live on the farm: 4 males and 6 females. The cats live in a 90-square-meter apartment with a large roof terrace, and a staff member (Mirjam) is specifically employed to care for them.
Lilly, who was paralyzed, lived right in the middle of the cat community and knew how to hold her own perfectly. She climbed onto sofas, beds, and scratching posts—wherever she wanted to go—and had her fixed place in the group. She didn’t seem to feel any major limitations.
Little Kira had a tail avulsion and can no longer empty her bladder independently due to nerve damage. Therefore, her bladder is emptied three times a day by manual pressure. By now, this is a well-established ritual and completely painless.
Little Minou was hit by a car and could only spin in circles. After some time, however, that subsided, and she now lives a normal cat life.
And Grisabella had a tumor on her head that was removed and, fortunately, never returned. Kili, a male cat, had hip damage, but surgery and physical therapy got him fit again.
So every cat on the farm has a story, and each one brings us joy by recovering from their suffering and developing back into a happy kitty.

Cat terrace renovated thanks to donations
What a noise… because incredibly kind people donated to “Viele schaffen mehr”—a campaign by the Volksbank—our cat terrace can be renovated. First, the roofing felt is being reinforced. Carpenter Holger Wenkemann is helping us as a volunteer… and our employees Guido and Michael are doing the bulk of the work. You sponsored the materials together with the Volksbank Lüneburger Heide eG… THANK YOU!
